Primary 1 have been so busy on the lead up to Christmas, with Christmas parties, nativity and Christmas activities.

The primary 7s came down to primary 1 to help with our STEM challenge. Santa’s sleigh had broken and they had to use construction items to build a new one. They did a fanatic job of using materials to build these and work collaboratively, listening to each others ideas.

We also finished off our Term 1 with some tasty hot juice. It was needed because it was chilly. ❄️

We have been learning about Christmas in France and how it is celebrated. Did you know they don’t have Christmas stockings, they put out their own boots out for Santa to put their presents in.

We made some French Christmas cards which were given to people who need them to bring a smile.

Then finally it was primary 1s turn for their Christmas party. It was so much fun playing some party games such as musical statues, musical bumps and Christmas corners.

The best part of our Christmas party is Santa came to visit and even give out an early Christmas present. 🎁 All the primary 1s were so polite, saying thank you and wishing Santa a merry Christmas. ,🎅

Primary 1 and 2 worked so hard on their nativity. They practiced every song, movement and dance so well. I think everyone who was able to come to watch would agree they did an absolutely amazing job on the stage. 👏

Santa’s reindeer came to visit Cross Arthurlie and it was so exciting.

The children all got to feed them a carrot and pet them. The reindeer were so calm and general and we were all so excited.

Santa’s elf’s let everyone ask lots of questions about the reindeers. Some of us were a bit worried the reindeer might fly away but they promised us that would happen because Santa needed to be there for them to fly. 🎅

Primary 1 were making soup last week. 🍲

We talked about food hygiene and how we making sure we are being clean and safe when working with foods. They children were able to create a list from washing their hands to making sure we wash out ingredients. Together we watched a video about how to cut safely using the bridge and claw technique.

Everyone got the chance to cut up different vegetables that would go on our soup.

Together we added the other ingredients into the soup maker and listened to the soup being made.

Everyone got the chance to try the soup if they wanted and lots came back for seconds it was so tasty. 😋

The primary 5 buddies came down to primary 1 to play some Halloween games that they had been practicing. We all got to go down to the big playground which was new  and the children all had so much fun.

The primary 5 buddies planned a warm up game, 2 active games and a cool down. The games were Halloween themed. They did a brilliant job of explaining and organising the games with everyone.

Primary 1 have been working on balance, aim and hand-eye coordination during PE.

Basketball has been a great way for everyone to develop these skills. We have learned to dribble using one hand on the ball at a time and different types of passes such as bounce and chest pass. The class asked to try get the chance to shoot and aim at the basketball hoop was great fun for all.

Maths week 🧮🔢

Maths week Scotland has been so much for with lots of different activities that everyone took part in.

We made use of the sunny weather by doing a number scavenger hunt outside. Everyone managed to collect every number. 🔍  

Planting 🌰🌱

Primary 1 have also been learning about plants. Starting from a seed and watching it grow with roots and shoots. We made sure we had all the parts to help a bean grow, soil, water and sunlight.

We have all planted our beans and have been watching them grow making sure we water them daily.

Fingers crossed they grow 🪴 🤞

The first week has been amazing and everyone has been working so hard together .

We all enjoyed the little bit of sunshine out in muddy movers. Everyone worked together to test out the water depths safely before playing together in the mud and huge water puddles. We had some chefs making muddy foods and also had some architects digging for artifacts too. 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳🔍

Primary 1 learnt thier first 2 sounds “s” and “a”. They have been developing forming the letter, spotting the letters and finding words that start with the letters. 🔡
