August 2025

Hi everybody,

We’ve had a lovely and very busy start to Primary 2! We enjoyed taking part in some yoga and are keen to do this more often.

We’ve had fabulous weather so far during muddy movers and have been learning to work together as a team and use our imaginations.

In maths, we have been working on creating addition calculations using concrete material to help us. We’re getting more and more confident with this! We’ve also been learning how to use beebots to programme routes and follow directions.

In PE, we are learning to improve our control, balance, throwing and catching.

Finally, we made suggestions of what topic we would like to start with in P2 and voted for Nature. We started our topic off by working together to think of as many things as we could for different categories of nature. Then we went outside to complete a nature scavenger hunt.

That’s all for this month,

Miss Donaldson and P2/1 🙂

Teddy bear picnic 🧺 🐻

We had a teddy bears picnic and it was so much fun. Bringing in our bears was very exciting. We made a choice of jam or butter sandwiches. 🥪 They were very tasty.

We got some lovely sunny weather to eat our sandwiches outside with our bears.

We played bear and the honey pot. 🍯 It was so nice watching everyone in p1 playing together and with their bears.

Sports day

Primary 1 enjoyed taking part in their first, school sports day. We got lucky with the weather. ☀️ Everyone tried so hard to win as many house points as they could for their house. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and encouragement for members of their team. A big thanks to the parents who helped and came and watched. 🎉

In the afternoon was the flat races, rely races and tug of war. The houses got some good scores thanks to the primary 1 help. 👟🥇🥈🥉

Well done Primary 1 for taking part and winning house points for your houses! 🥳

Term 3

Before the Easter holidays, we learned about French traditions about Easter. We learned that France does have Easter bunny but Easter bells instead. We made our own Easter bells and found some chocolate under our Easter bells as if we were in France.

Muddy movers has been great fun in the lovely sunny weather. Chilling in the sun. ☀️

March round up!

It was world book week this month and they enjoyed reading with their buddies. We had different activities from quiet reading together, the books brought from home to games outside linked to well known books.

The children have been learning about coins and using money. Together we have been making different amounts of money to pay for items like we would in the shops.

We have been enjoying some of the lovely spring weather. Together we were detectives outside to find signs of spring outside.

For our last week of term we joined in with an Easter egg hunt filled with maths calculations to solve. They all did a great job to find the eggs and answer the questions using number lines, cubes and numicon to help themselves.

Pancake day 🥞

We have been learning about the meaning of pancake day or also known as Shrove Tuesday. The children talked about things they could give up for lent, even though they don’t want to!

We followed the instruction to make the pancakes, adding an ingredient at a time and making sure to mix it together. The children took it in turns to spoon out the pancake mixture onto the heading pan. 🥞

People who help us ❤️

Primary 1 have been learning about people who help us. It was so nice to see so many family members come to the open afternoon where we showed our learning based on this topic.

The children have all loved having different visitors in to talk about their jobs and we can’t thank them all enough as well as the parents who volunteered too.

We had the fire department come speak to us and then they came with the fire truck. The children got to use the water hose which was so exciting.🚒🔥

We had a doctor come in too and talked about her jobs with thr different departments. The children all created great questions and showed great listening to the answers given. 🩺👩‍⚕️

We also had a postal worker come to talk to us. We were able to learn lots of fun facts such as how the letters and parcels are sorted. We were so impressed that postal workers in Barrhead know all the streets. 📮

The police also came in and they were brilliant at sharing the kind of jobs they have on a daily basis. They shared about how they help people in the community and that they will always help everyone how they can.  We also got to use the radio to speak to the station officer.  🚔🚨

Lastly we had a paramedic come in and talk about their job and how it works in an ambulance. The children were so excited to hear about the ambulance helicopters and planes to help people further away.  We used a heart rate monitor too, seeing how the beats worked.  🚑

Busy learning in January

Primary 1 have been worked really hard this months engaging with lots of different learning activities.

In science we have been learning about circuits and electricity. They used different batteries and cables to make a bulb turn on. Some children were able to insert switches into their circuits as an extra challenge.

In PE we have been taking part in gymnastics. The children have been developing their balance, forward rolls and safe landings. They particularly enjoyed using the pull out climbing flame to practice their climbing and balance.

We have been working on our sentence structure during literacy. We took our learning outside. They had to find the sentences and identify what was wrong with the sentences such as missing capital letters, finger spaces or full stops. They children used the visuals to show their answers.

Burns day 💌

Primary 1 had great fun baking shortbread for a Robert Burns celebration. 🥣

We read through the recipe and talked about the steps we needed to follow to make sure we were being hygienic. They children recalled from making soup last term about washing our hands and making sure we have a clean work surface.

Altogether, we added the ingredients into a bowl and mixed them together. In groups everyone got to roll and cut out shortbread biscuits with the cutters.

Everyone patiently waited for the shortbread to cook in the oven.  We had a talk about safely rules of not touching the oven and keeping a safe distance while it’s cooking.

When the shortbread was cool they all got the option to try a bit and one piece of shortbread went home with them. They worked hard to make the shortbread and waited patiently for it to cook and cool but it was all worth it because they said it was delicious!

Christmas time 🎄

Primary 1 have been so busy on the lead up to Christmas, with Christmas parties, nativity and Christmas activities.

The primary 7s came down to primary 1 to help with our STEM challenge. Santa’s sleigh had broken and they had to use construction items to build a new one. They did a fanatic job of using materials to build these and work collaboratively, listening to each others ideas.

We also finished off our Term 1 with some tasty hot juice. It was needed because it was chilly. ❄️

We have been learning about Christmas in France and how it is celebrated. Did you know they don’t have Christmas stockings, they put out their own boots out for Santa to put their presents in.

We made some French Christmas cards which were given to people who need them to bring a smile.

Then finally it was primary 1s turn for their Christmas party. It was so much fun playing some party games such as musical statues, musical bumps and Christmas corners.

The best part of our Christmas party is Santa came to visit and even give out an early Christmas present. 🎁 All the primary 1s were so polite, saying thank you and wishing Santa a merry Christmas. ,🎅

Merry Christmas to everyone in primary 1 and I look forward to seeing you all in 2025! ❤️🎉
