January 2026

Happy New Year everybody! It’s hard to believe that the first month of 2026 is almost over. P2/1 have had a lovely start to the year.

In PE, we have started working on gymnastics where we have been learning a range of balances, jumps and rotations. We’ve loved using the different equipment too!

For the month of January, we have been learning about Robert Burns. We have participated in a range of activities to celebrate both him and Scotland such as making tartan kilts, listening to bagpipes, ceilidh dancing and making Scotch Broth soup. Miss Donaldson even brought in her fiddle for us all to have a turn of!

This term, we have been learning some Mandarin. Our favourite part so far has been making our own red envelopes to celebrate Chinese New Year.

In ICT, we have been working on coding. We are getting very good at using our problem solving skills to solve problems!

That’s all for this month,

Miss Donaldson & P2/1

December 2025

Hi everybody,

Can’t believe this is our last blog post of 2025! What a quick year it has been! P2/1 have been so busy this month and are feeling very festive!

Everybody worked so hard on our Nativity- Hey Ewe!- and put on 2 fantastic shows. Hopefully, you all enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed performing it!

We were very surprised to learn that we were going to meet 2 of Santa’s reindeer! It was amazing getting to see them and feed them some carrots.

For the Cross Arthurlie Christmas Fayre, we worked hard to create some beautiful wreath decorations.

Everyone looked great on Christmas jumper day!

In class, we have been doing lots of festive activities. We wrote our letters to Santa and learned all about the story of the Nutcracker. We watched part of the ballet then did some dancing and artwork ourselves. As final Christmas activities, we baked and decorated Christmas cookies and had hot chocolate. Hopefully everybody enjoyed them!

We also had our Christmas party this week. Everybody looked great and we had lots of fun dancing and playing games. We had a very special visitor too… Santa! We were so lucky to each get a special present from him.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in 2026!

November 2025

Hi everybody,

P2/1 have had a great November and are looking forward to the festivities of next month!

In maths, we have been learning how to measure weights. We have investigated using different types of scales including balance, dial and electronic. Our favourite part of this was applying our skills to bake our own banana muffins. They were delicious!

We’ve had a great time dressing up this month for both Cross Arthurlie’s 60th anniversary and for Children in Need. Here’s some pictures from our disco and activity sessions:

During writing, we have been learning to write instructions. Everybody loved writing and following instructions to make our own pizza!

Finally, we have been learning about questions in literacy. We worked well together in groups to spot question words in our class library books.

September 2025

Hi everybody,

September is almost at an end already and P2 have been very busy. For our Nature topic, we have been learning the difference between living and non-living things and did a great job of sorting these.

In maths, we have been learning and improving lots of new skills including measuring, creating patterns, place value and problem solving.

In muddy movers, we have been working as a team to create obstacle courses which include different elements.

In PE, we have been working on possession games and had lots of fun trying out a range of activities to improve our aim and control.

Finally, it was lovely seeing so many of you at our open afternoon. Hopefully you had a lovely time and enjoyed seeing some of our learning.

Have a lovely long weekend!

August 2025

Hi everybody,

We’ve had a lovely and very busy start to Primary 2! We enjoyed taking part in some yoga and are keen to do this more often.

We’ve had fabulous weather so far during muddy movers and have been learning to work together as a team and use our imaginations.

In maths, we have been working on creating addition calculations using concrete material to help us. We’re getting more and more confident with this! Weโ€™ve also been learning how to use beebots to programme routes and follow directions.

In PE, we are learning to improve our control, balance, throwing and catching.

Finally, we made suggestions of what topic we would like to start with in P2 and voted for Nature. We started our topic off by working together to think of as many things as we could for different categories of nature. Then we went outside to complete a nature scavenger hunt.

That’s all for this month,

Miss Donaldson and P2/1 ๐Ÿ™‚

Teddy bear picnic ๐Ÿงบ ๐Ÿป

We had a teddy bears picnic and it was so much fun. Bringing in our bears was very exciting. We made a choice of jam or butter sandwiches. ๐Ÿฅช They were very tasty.

We got some lovely sunny weather to eat our sandwiches outside with our bears.

We played bear and the honey pot. ๐Ÿฏ It was so nice watching everyone in p1 playing together and with their bears.

Sports day

Primary 1 enjoyed taking part in their first, school sports day. We got lucky with the weather. โ˜€๏ธ Everyone tried so hard to win as many house points as they could for their house. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and encouragement for members of their team. A big thanks to the parents who helped and came and watched. ๐ŸŽ‰

In the afternoon was the flat races, rely races and tug of war. The houses got some good scores thanks to the primary 1 help. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿฅ‰

Well done Primary 1 for taking part and winning house points for your houses! ๐Ÿฅณ

Term 3

Before the Easter holidays, we learned about French traditions about Easter. We learned that France does have Easter bunny but Easter bells instead. We made our own Easter bells and found some chocolate under our Easter bells as if we were in France.

Muddy movers has been great fun in the lovely sunny weather. Chilling in the sun. โ˜€๏ธ

March round up!

It was world book week this month and they enjoyed reading with their buddies. We had different activities from quiet reading together, the books brought from home to games outside linked to well known books.

The children have been learning about coins and using money. Together we have been making different amounts of money to pay for items like we would in the shops.

We have been enjoying some of the lovely spring weather. Together we were detectives outside to find signs of spring outside.

For our last week of term we joined in with an Easter egg hunt filled with maths calculations to solve. They all did a great job to find the eggs and answer the questions using number lines, cubes and numicon to help themselves.

Pancake day ๐Ÿฅž

We have been learning about the meaning of pancake day or also known as Shrove Tuesday. The children talked about things they could give up for lent, even though they don’t want to!

We followed the instruction to make the pancakes, adding an ingredient at a time and making sure to mix it together. The children took it in turns to spoon out the pancake mixture onto the heading pan. ๐Ÿฅž
